THE LOVE-HATE PROJECT

Were you in a romantic relationship when you were 15 or 16 or 17? Did you ever have disagreements or fights with your partner then? Adolescence is a time where you are not only developing your own personal traits but also figuring out how to navigate the ups and downs of new romantic relationships. This can be tough, especially when you have to handle conflicts with your partner. That’s why we created The Love-Hate project! We want to understand more about how your personal traits affected how you handled conflicts with your partner. We hope that this project will help us better understand how to support young people who may be facing challenges in their romantic relationships.

What are we asking?

This study involves filling in an online survey.
The survey will consist of various kinds of questions.

Some questions will be related to how you would describe yourself. Such questions will typically involve statements and you will have to choose to what extent you agree with the statement. Examples of these statements include:

“I do not like to be in charge of other people.”

“I try to look at everybody’s side of a disagreement before I make a decision.”

“I usually find it difficult to regulate my emotions.”

“It is alright to lie to keep your friends out of trouble.”

Some questions will be related to how frequently you or your partner engages in a particular behavior. Such questions will typically involve a description of a behavior or a situation and you will have to choose to how frequently that situation or behavior occurs. Examples of these questions include:

“How often did you have more influence than your partner did on decisions in your relationship.”

“How often did you find alternatives that were acceptable to both you and your partner.”
