PersonalityjudgementSTUDY
Led by Dr. Kathleen reardon
The Personality Judgement Study aims to examine what it is we can learn about adolescents using thin-slicing methodology. The term thin-slicing refers to the process of making very quick inferences about the state, characteristics, or details of an individual with minimal amounts of information. This is an especially pressing question in the age of social media! Participants in our study will watch six short, previously-recorded videos of adolescents, ranging from ages 13-17, performing various tasks. Participants will then be asked to complete a short survey, rating various aspects of the adolescent's behavior and personality traits. Through this process, we hope to examine if untrained observers are able to reliably detect useful information about mental health and social functioning, and to see if these judgements correspond with other information about the adolescents, such as their parents' reports of their personality.
